Jay is a fully-licensed broker for Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Great Smokys Realty and a real estate attorney with over 36 years of experience in law and real estate brokerage. A veteran, Jay served as a Judge Advocate General (JAGC) officer in the Navy. He has lived in southwestern North Carolina for thirty-two years and during that time has been actively involved in community and regional economic and civic affairs, having served as an officer or board member of over seventeen (17) civic, economic development, and professional organizations including:  Rotary, Optimist, Sylva Partners In Renewal, Chamber of Commerce, Western Carolina University Catamount Club, Advantage West, Northern Jackson MLS, Southwestern Community College, Meridian Behavioral Healthcare, and others. He co-founded the Hooper House Preservation Foundation, and has served as a deacon at Sylva First Baptist Church. He currently serves as the Parliamentarian for the Carolina Smokies Association of Realtors. Jay has also been involved directly in the local real estate market as an investor and a developer.

Jay’s credentials with our firm include awards for Most Units Sold (2009), Most New Listings (2008), and Most Gross Commission Income, Most Sales, and Most Buyers (2009). Jay is E-Certified by Berkshire Hathaway for real estate expertise and communication on the Internet and specializes in commercial land sales and commercial properties in southwestern North Carolina, including Transylvania, Buncombe, Henderson, Haywood, Macon, Jackson and Swain counties.

An avid runner and hiker, and the father of three daughters, Jay has explored most of western North Carolina’s mountains from bottom to top.  His enthusiasm and love of the coves and peaks (and people) of the area has, and does, inform his relationship with his clients.
